Microsoft to begin transitioning Xbox Live Gold Family Pack accounts into individual Xbox Live Gold accounts from August 27.
Microsoft will begin changing Xbox Live Gold Family Pack accounts into individual Xbox Live Gold accounts from the end of August, the company has said.
Xbox Live Gold Family Pack accounts will begin transitioning from August 27. Microsoft introduced the Xbox Live Gold Family Pack in November 2010, allowing one primary account holder to share Xbox Live Gold features with up to three family members.
Each individual Gold account will have the remaining subscription time on the former Family Pack account, alongside three extra months.
After transitioning into individual Gold accounts, activity monitoring features will no longer be available. These allowed parents to keep track of what their children were playing, but Microsoft says its parental control settings will still be available.
Microsoft will also be removing the ability for the parent account to allocate Microsoft Points to other accounts. Microsoft Points themselves will also be phased out alongside the next Xbox dashboard update.
The option to purchase Xbox Live Gold Family Pack subscriptions was removed earlier in the year,
The company also to the Xbox One, which launches later in the year.

| Next Xbox 360 update will add local currency
Added: 10.08.2013 0:20 | 12 views | 0 comments
Microsoft Points going away for Xbox 360 via upcoming update; change a "direct result of customer feedback."
The days of Microsoft Points are numbered. Microsoft chief product officer Marc Whitten explained in an blog post today that the controversial currency system will be replaced by local currency on Xbox 360 via the next system update.
"This change was a direct result of customer feedback," Whitten said. "You told us you want to be able to buy things using money instead of points, and we listened."
Whitten said the goal is to make the transition "as easy as possible."
"After the next Xbox 360 system update, when you go to buy something or redeem a Microsoft Points card or code on your console with your Microsoft account, we#146;ll add to your account an amount of currency equal to or greater than the Xbox Marketplace value of your Microsoft Points, which will be retired," he said.
Making a purchase through Xbox 360 will be "faster and easier than ever," Whitten added. Content will be presented in local currency, so users will not need to perform calculations to determine costs.
Microsoft Points Cards will continue to be accepted "until further notice," Microsoft said.
Microsoft points have been in place since the inception of Xbox Live and have not been without criticism. Rather than using real-world currency, Microsoft has adopted its own system, where 400 Microsoft points is equivalent to $5. Further, Microsoft sells point packs only in multiples of 400, often leaving gamers with excess points after purchasing content they want.

Ross Hartley: "Scourge: Outbreak is an awful name for a videogame. Don't get me wrong, there are loads of games out there with naff names but Scourge: Outbreak is especially bad. Whilst playing, I kept forgetting the name of this game. However, this is the least of Scourge: Outbreak's problems. This is a tedious co-op shooter that may be tempting at only 800 Microsoft Points but you have played better iterations of this style of gameplay many times before."
